Could've wrote about about an anniversary yesterday but one might say it got "rained out" for real.  But I alway expected this week would cover another musical event. Marisa and her dad - this commentator - took in the Eagles' The Long Goodbye Tour at UBS last Wednesday eve.  

The Eagles were "supported" by Steely Dan which I never saw in any of its earlier iterations.  One might say they played the hits; so even though I never bought the vinyl, I pretty much knew all the songs from airplay.  Essentially a duo with a supporting cast, this version of "Dan" features, following the 2017 loss of Walter Becker, surviving member Donald Fagen.

As with Squeeze discussed last week, when an opening act or co-headliner is involved, the band you really want to see plays a comparatively shorter set.  When we saw the Eagles just over two years ago at the Garden for the Hotel California tour, there was no opener and they more of their catalogue.  I prefer that, especially in a situation where the set includes some solo work by Joe Walsh (His tunes just work very well in arenas and stadia.) and Don Henley.  The crowd loved those songs but as enjoyable as I found those, I probably would enjoy hearing instead Eagles version of some of bassist/vocalist Timothy B. Schmit's strong Poco tunes, including "Keep On Tryin'", "Restrain," or "Starin' At the Sky" (Weigh in after you hear those great tunes.).

When we left, I pulled up my favorite Eagles LP, "On The Border," in Apple Music.  It features a few tunes I'd still enjoy hearing live that failed to make the set including "Ol' 55." "James Dean" and "Good Day in Hell".  If there ever is a new tour, I'd not mind hearing them play that album in its entirety.  That said most of the set (see below) is a staple of their lives shows in recent years.  It was also nice to hear Glenn Frey's son, Deacon, cover his father's vocals on "Take It Easy," "Peaceful Easy Feelin'" and "Already Gone." Like father, like son.

The concert year is not yet over but it is really shaping up as great year for live music.
