A close friend of our family got engaged Friday afternoon. How did we find out? Within minutes of her engagement, pictures of her hand wearing her new ring went up on Instagram, Snapchat, Facebook etc. Moments later, as I sat at my desk with a client, my phone started exploding with text messages from my family and other close friends telling me that Beth was engaged.
The best part about the social media explosion, however, was that I was able to see the video of it happening. The couple met at Driftwood Day Camp and so, the soon to be groom Josh, decided to propose at camp. The camp posted the video on its Facebook page which gave me the opportunity to see Josh sing to her in front of the whole camp during “Driftwood Idol,” Bruno Mars’ version of “Will You Marry Me,” and, ultimately surprise her by dropping down to one knee and producing an engagement ring. I admit the video brought tears to my eyes.
When I got engaged, we had to call everyone we knew to let them know. Now, with social media, everyone knows and can share in major life events within moments of them happening. One of the better aspects of the social media explosion.
Congrats to Beth and Josh!!!!
