Who’s your Muppet?
Anthropomorphism is the attribution of human traits, emotions, or intentions to non-human entities. It is considered to be an innate tendency of human psychology to give human traits to our non-human friends. It’s slightly different than personification.
Truly a genius literary device used by Jim Henson to provide perspective and self-observation through the Muppet characters. Kermit the frog is kind and compassionate, loyal and funny. He’s likened to a straight man in a Monty Python sketch. Gonzo is described as weird. Maybe it’s weird, not to be weird. Miss Piggy is a force of nature. A prima-donna pig, convinced she is destined for stardom. There’s Beaker and Scooter and The Swedish Chef. My personal favorites are Statler and Waldorf. The 2 elderly Muppet characters known for their cantankerous opinions and shared penchant for heckling. How about Rowlf the Dog, or Rizzo the Rat, or Sam the Eagle? Each one expressing a unique personality trait, much like our human friends. For fun, I encourage you to play a game with your closest friend. Ask them to describe you in just a few words or, liken you to a Muppet.
