Where We All Belong

Where We All Belong

Last week I wrote of possibly starting over, technology-wise.

This week, an update of sorts.

Wednesday after attending a funeral for the dad of a friend with whom I play basketball, I powered up my phone and found an alert from the Manhasset Apple Store.

It advised the MacBook Pro I brought in only four days before for repair was ready for pick up. When I left my MacBook for repair the Apple genius bar folks advised the hurricane that hit Texas may impact the timeliness of the repair so I braced for a longer period. In the meantime, I used the newer MacBook I purchased; it required as I mentioned last week a USBC adapter to connect to my backup drive – Time Machine proved a live saver in getting all my programs and data on the newer device. However, the lack of any new adaptor to connect the external monitor – I did not raise that at the time I purchased the new Mac, proved an inconvenience. Indeed, I visited the Apple Store with the cable I used to connect the monitor and my MacBook awaiting repair to purchase an adaptor – all for naught; but I found it would connect to a MacBook Air and I was prepared to turn in the new Pro for a new Air since I prefer the extra screen for my work (Indeed I am using the external screen in my office to type today’s blog.).

Of course, the repair made my decision for me. I picked up the old machine looking rather brand new and working fine. No data loss occurred. Working with the Apple Store folk, I wiped the data from the new Pro and turned it in (there may be another blog there; to be determined.).

I really enjoyed the return of this device; It required very little data update.

The lack of access to an external drive required some innovation as we finalized a great mailer (if you follow me on twitter or Facebook, you may have seen it but find it on my website) that I wanted to use while I used the newer MacBook Pro that I opted to return. I reviewed the mailer on the Mac’s screen while I made my comments on an email I composed on my iPad. Without that mobile device the editing process would have been interminable.
