What are your true feelings about Valentine's Day?

I ask while Tuesday is still fresh in your mind.

Is it just some manufactured Hallmark Holiday or is it romantic nirvana?

Over the arc of our marriage we have always exchanged Valentine's cards, except this year. We mutually agreed it had become a played out ritual.

Yet, as it happened, we had one of our very best Valentine's Days as we bought ourselves a present and enjoyed a wonderful dinner alone.

Who knows what next year has in store...

I like the holiday. We do not exchange cards or buy flowers, but we do stop and think about our good fortune in finding each other; we make a toast. We tell each other stories and we talk about future trips we are going to take. It’s no big deal, but I think that making a full stop in the middle of the madness of the world, and concentrating on each other is fun and probably very healthy.

My wife and I first started to date we were cursed on this date when we did long distance relationship, flight delayed due to snow, luggage was destroyed, main water valve in Westbury was broken. We celebrate the day a different day to avoid the curse.

This year we did the Tik Tok challenge and present gifts at the same time.
Favorite drink, snack, something that reminds you of them, and something to do together. It was a fun twist and got to really think about them and plan future plans.

We always try to spend our Valentine’s Day together (usually just the two of us) when business obligations don’t get in the way. We keep it simple. No Hallmark cards, but just a day to both toast to what has been good and special in our marriage. Champagne is usually involved!
