Cayce’s blog from last week inspired me to this blog. While Cayce wrote about the challenges she faced turning her diet around into a healthier lifestyle, I had the opposite challenge. In preparation for a minor procedure I had (I am absolutely fine), my doctor requested that I flip my diet around. I was advised not to eat vegetables, fruits, whole wheat products or any products that contained seeds for five days; all of which make up the majority of my diet. I was permitted to eat proteins, white flour products, healthy oils, and dairy products. My sister- in-law nicknamed this eating regiment the “no side dish” diet.
As I am sure my husband will attest, I whined and complained for the entire time. My struggle was to try to eat in a healthy way but not incorporate the foods that I always believed were most healthy. I did come to an unexpected realization during the five day period. There were some foods that I had previously excluded from my diet that were actually acceptable such potatoes and white rice.
I am happy to report that I am healthy and back into my old eating habits. But those habits will now include a potato or sweet potato every now and then. This old dog learned some new tricks. Do you think you can flip your diet around as Cayce did and I was asked to do?
