Every year a top cultural highlight, for me, is the Kennedy Center Honorees Special. It is always televised between Christmas and New Years on CBS. This year’s telecast is tonight at 8 pm, Wednesday, December 28.
A group of 5 artists are presented Medals, in a night of celebration, for their distinguished careers. This year the list is an eclectic one. Performers in rock: U2, classical music: Donna Leon, movies: George Clooney, soul music: Gladys Knight, and contemporary Christian music: Amy Grant.
The biographical featurettes and highlight reels of the winners performing are touching and illuminating. And, the live tributes by colleagues and protégées bring out new insights. I enjoy the performances of the famous songs by high quality talent that always hits the spot.
Keep your eye out for the U2 introduction by Sacha Baron Cohen, in his Borat persona. It has garnered lots of attention.
May All your Happy and Healthy New Year be filled with great music, movies, and theater.
