I think about my father all the time. He was one special guy. Fiercely loyal to his family, smart, honest, and hard working. I think about how our lives, and in particular my mom’s, would be different if he were still with us.
And, I think about the things that were quirky and unique to him.
He danced in a special way that as a family we often imitated. We would be at a party with music playing and someone would yell “Do the Poppy”. He loved that. He saw good in the world. I remember he drove me to take the bar exam up at the piers on the westside of Manhattan. As we drove through what was then a seedy part of the lower east side, he noticed some scantily clad women calling out to cars in the street and commented – “Look, there must be a dance troupe in the neighborhood.”
He had sayings and shared wisdoms. He often shared a simple statement that can only come with years of experience – “This too shall pass.” These days, I think about that wisdom all the time.
What did your father say all the time that has stuck with you?
And of course, Happy Father's Day!
