There are two roads leading out of our development. Both lead onto the same four-lane main road. One exit has a traffic light whereas the other does not.
I’ve always preferred the exit with the traffic light. There is the security of making a left turn into the main road with the light, while you can make the right turn on red under the right circumstances.
About a year ago, the timing of the traffic light was changed and the light is now a very long light. This has caused several of my neighbors to exit from the other road to save time - sometimes crossing a double center line when making a left turn into the main road.
I’ve been dubious of this practice. Thankfully and surprisingly, there have been no accidents that I am aware of.
A few minutes here and a few minutes there, I’ll wait for the light.
