Tomorrow evening, we light the third candle for Hanukkah. The third night of Hanukkah will forever have a special significance for me. Tomorrow evening is the second anniversary of my mother’s passing.
Lighting the third candle at the same time that I light a Yahrzeit (remembrance) candle is bittersweet.
However, it most appropriate for my mother who, as a Holocaust survivor, always celebrated with a touch of bittersweet.
I often marveled at how she could laugh so hard and be a beacon of life and hope having lived through and witnessed what she did.
And, when I need that little light, I still think of calling her and with that momentary realization, I smile.
