The dictionary defines reveal as “to make previously unknown or secret information known to others.” That makes sense. But the concept of “the reveal” has taken on bigger proportions. Reveals happen on television all the time – the Today show does a makeover; “George to the Rescue” renovates a bathroom for a needy family and we get to see the finished product.
But here is the newest reveal – a baby gender reveal party. Just google “baby reveal party” and you will see what I mean. There are ideas for how to host the party or “7 hot ideas for your gender reveal party”. I’ve seen scratch off tickets; pink or blue balloons escaping from a box at the “reveal”; gender reveal confetti pops. And let’s not forget the reveal cake – innocuous icing on the outside but cut into the cake to learn whether the center is blue or pink.
I believe in celebrating happy occasions with family and friends. I have to admit, however, I had never heard of quite this type of celebration.
But, I’m in! Another wonderful reason to celebrate.
