Is anyone else watching this on Hulu? It's a tragic comedy based in Chicago.
I think this is a breakthrough series, similar to "Breaking Bad," that will change how series are made. It centers around a family in Boston and starts at a specific point in time, but goes into the past, filling out reasons for relationships through the exploration of their family dysfunction.
To me, it's not only about the acting and the writing, which are excellent but also about the editing. Most shows cut away from actors once they've shown you their reaction in a specific scene. This director stays with the actor as he or she emotes, drawing you into their experience and what is going on. It's quite powerful.
For example, S2 E3 was the family's Christmas dinner which happened 5 years earlier. It was so unsettling, that we didn't watch to watch the next episode.
