Did you ever have a teacher that left a lasting impression? Last week, one such teacher I had senior year in high school just popped into my mind, Mr. Higgins. And just thinking about Mr. Higgins made me smile. 

For first semester senior year myself and some friends were looking for an elective that would be an “easy A.” Several older friends recommended “Greek and Latin in Modern English,” taught by Mr. Higgins. They told us it would be an easy A and helpful with vocabulary portion of the SATs. Based on those recommendations we all signed up. 

Mr. Higgins was the surprise of the class. His excitement for teaching and love of the subject was just infectious. He would have the class of high school seniors singing in Latin and just loving it. Most importantly, however, I can still search for the Greek or Latin root in a word when trying to decipher the word’s meaning. And that I learned from Mr. Higgins.

Mr. Higgins taught me a life long skill and I loved the process of learning with him. Did you have a Mr. Higgins?
