One day last week, I was at the tail end of my commute but it was very crowded. Two trains hit the 5th Avenue station within minutes of each other and so there was barely room to walk.
As the group started slowly climbing the stairs, I noticed a man somewhat ahead of me struggling to climb. He was moving slowly and the people around him were clearly annoyed. As he reached the top of the stairs he stopped to rest.
A woman with a young child was climbing behind him. And that’s when I heard it. She turned to her son and said, “Billy, this man is struggling to climb the stairs. Let’s go over and ask him if he needs some help.” And they did.
Our children learn from the example of those around them. On this particular day, a young child learned a valuable lesson from his compassionate mother.
Well done.
