Summer's almost gone

On Friday, my wife mentioned not visiting our son in the Greystone section of Yonkers, walking distance from Hastings on the Hudson (Jonathan and his wife have been here but with Summer almost gone, we've not visited there since summer began.).  On Friday, not thinking that his building's pool might close for the season this weekend, I texted my son that I've not yet swam there, despite his off-season offer to host his dad for fave activity. He texted back what about yesterday or today; knowing our dinner plans for this eve, I suggested he call his mom to settle things.  Yesterday became the day.

Late Saturday morning Shelly and I set out for his building, River Tides.  I wore my navy bathing suit that I am not sure I selected since Covid.  We visited my son and daughter-in-law in their apartment before Jonathan took me foe to the pool.  I surmise the overcast weather provided me a pool all to my self -- I imagine something like Friday's blogger enjoys.

Rockwood & Perry

I swam my laps, did some stretches and even some aimless floating on my back without a worry of "traffic" in the water space; pretty cool  At the gym, when you swim, you pretty much stick to your lane, often shared with one or more swimmers so your time there is structured.   I really enjoyed the unstructured time.  My son also insisted that the AppleWatch he gifted me pre-Covid was waterproof and showed my the setting to select; so I for the first I kept the watch on while I swam; it recorded my activity and by afternoon, I closed my rings!

We enjoyed an early dinner at a Hasting on the Hudson restaurant, the kids wanted to dine at but had not since they moved in: Bread and Brine.  It was a nice experience.  If "GQ" GC Dan Schwartz dined there, I could imagine his pics of the fare we chose. After dinner we crossed Warburton Avenue for a wine-tasting at the local spirits store (see pic upper left).  I much liked the decor of Rockwood & Perry.  As we entered i observed a wine display with a name similar to the Editor of City Limits where I hope to see an Op-ed I co-wrote with the chair of my Queens community board and its Land Use Committee chair on the proposed City of Yes for Housing Opportunity zoning that is making its way through the City's Land Use process and will be considered in Autumn by the City Council (Those interested who cannot wait for the op-ed can view my testimony to the City Planning Commission and the Community Board's resolution.).  We tasted several wines and bought a reasonably priced Macon Villages and Nebbiolo.

I felt the experience was like a one day family vacation/excursion.  A cost-effective one at that.
