In my blog last week I mentioned that my daughter, and her new husband, very recently went to Greece for their honeymoon. What I did not mention was how, through modern technology, I was essentially able to check in on them throughout their trip.
First, I was able to track their flight through Flightaware. My daughter went to SUNY Buffalo so she is very used to me tracking her flights, which I would do when she would fly back to school. She habitually gives me her flight information when she is travelling.
Once she landed, I texted her through WhatsApp to let her know that I knew that she landed safely. Thereafter, as a part of our gift to her, we pay the extra fee for her to use her cell phone while she’s in Europe. Whether that’s a gift to her or me, I’m not sure. But she did text me several times during her trip.
Lastly, I can see her photos as she posts them on Instragram and Snapchat.
It’s difficult to turn off being a Mom even when your child gets married. As long as she, and my son-in-law, don’t mind I’ll continue to keep tabs on them from the discrete distance afforded to me from technology. Any thoughts?
