Reposting a blog from the past with a timeless message. Shake it off. Music heals.
Sometimes life can be so simple.
The other night after a very long day, I was headed home on the 14th St. crosstown bus.
It is a favorite of mine.
All is going well, when 2 stops before “my stop” it starts.
Two guys start in on each other, the shouting escalates, it’s New York, so you know the hostility included the most foul language, the bus driver is saying how she’s calling the Police if they don’t stop and we sit and take it in.
A big guy in the back screams for them to stop because he worked all day and he wants to go home. A cop gets on the bus and eventually we start moving again.
Of course, when I do get home, I am carrying all that negativity with me and it was my turn to make the fruit salad. So I thought, what can I listen to that will rid me of this angst and fill me with joy? Not my self help audio books, not my Oprah/Deepak meditation files…
What’s this on my iPhone? Radio? Why not?
I tried the Disco station. Naahh, not quite right.
Then, I saw it: Pop. Yes, iTunes Pop radio saved me that night.
I was listening to Pitbull, Sia, Bruno Mars and dancing all around the kitchen.
I have to say, my real savior was Taylor Swift and Shake It Off.
She is my new hero.
It just worked. I changed from downtrodden and hopeless to Uplifted and Joyous.
Try Taylor (http://youtu.be/nfWlot6h_JM) or something else or just get up and move. It makes an amazing difference.
Players gonna Play.
Haters gonna hate.
Shake it off.
PS – Corey Bearak can give you some great music vids to move to…
