Last weekend, my son, Ryan, got married. This is my third child that has gotten married. So, one would think that I would be used to the impact of emotions you feel watching a child get married. But I wasn’t.

Watching my son get married felt so surreal, like being in a television show, only I had a starring role as "the emotional tearful mom." Although, after getting my make up professionally applied-thanks to my new daughter-in-law-I kept having to remind myself not to ruin my make-up with my tears. I was not successful at that.

As I stood next to him under the chuppah, I kept thinking, "How is this the same kid who I had to fight with to take his winter coat and not his fleece North Face jacket in zero-degree weather? And why is he suddenly so much taller than me?"

The whole day was beautiful. There is no better feeling than seeing everyone you love and care about in one room.  Seeing Ryan with his new wife, I realized he’s really grown up, even though I’ll always see him as my little boy with a mushroom haircut and an inquisitive face.

It was a perfect day, with just the right amount of love, laughter, and a lot of happy tears. Still, part of me wonders if Ryan will ever ask me to help him with his homework ever again.
