Last week, a colleague called to ask me a question. It didn’t have anything to do with work. She had a need and was trying to figure out how to go about filling it. So she called me – and paid me the most extreme compliment. “I thought of you because you know everyone”, she said.
I paused, flattered that that was her vision of me.
But then I started thinking. I don’t really know everyone, but I do know a lot of really fantastic people. And I owe so much of that reach to networking and Gotham.
This conversation brought home the networking lesson to me. Networking is as much about building a deep net of resources as it is about building your business.
And, in the end I was able to help this colleague make the connection she was looking for. All through Gotham.
