I must admit, sorry pumpkin fans, but this pumpkin spice thing is over the top. I think it's jumped the shark, as was coined in 1985 by Jon Hein in response to a 1977 episode from the fifth season of the American sitcom Happy Days, in which Fonzie jumps over a shark while on water-skis.
We can get anything with pumpkin spice now. For example (the actual pumpkin spice excluded):
- Cupcakes
- Lattes
- Candles
- Hand soap
- Body spray (with the addition of a marshmallow scent as well)
- Beer
- Bread
- English muffins
- Cream cheese
- Ravioli
- Cranberry crisps
- Cherrios
- Frosted Mini-Wheats
- Special K
- Oreos
- Milanos
- Twinkies (guaranteed to last for the next few years)
- and the list goes on...
These ones took me to the edge:
- Pumpkin Spice Nissin Cup Noodles
- Limited Edition Pumpkin Spice SPAM
- Burts Bees Pumpkin Spice Lip Balm
- Pumpkin Spice Latte Deodorant
Come on now...
