Last weekend, we joined about 24 members of the Metropolitan Contemporary Glass Group for our annual trip to visit a place of interest for studio glass. This year the destination was Providence, Rhode Island.
We visited the Rhode Island School of Design’s glass department, one of the most prestigious and influential glass studios and several prominent glass artists.
But this year was different from past visits. Beginning with the visit to RISD’s glass studio and two RISD graduate students, our interchanges with the artists focused on process, rather than the beautiful artistic results.
Thinking about the process - that leads to results - opened our eyes and deepened our appreciation for the art that we had all been enjoying for so long.
