One of the pleasures (rights) of being a grandparent is indulging (spoiling) the grandkids.

Just such an occasion occurred this past Sunday when we accompanied my son Alex and his son Shawn to the Grasshoppers Comics store in East Williston.

We arrived when it opened at noon and had the luxury of being the first and only customers.

Our son Alex has been a comic book aficionado since his boyhood and it was an unexpected pleasure to hear him engage the owner saying "I have a lot of pretty seminal stuff from the 80s".

Just as I helped finance that collection, I was there to continue that scholarly tradition with Shawn.

"Thor" is Shawn's favorite Marvel Comics character and he had free rein to explore the Thor section and the rest of the store (see picture) and with the help of the owner and Alex he continued to enrich his reading collection.

A few doors down from the comic book store is venerable, old school, Hildebrandt's luncheonette, which I first patronized as a boy, where we lunched and ended a perfect afternoon of rich family tradition with dishes of homemade ice cream.

It doesn't get any better than that!
