Last week’s blog teased about this week’s commentary. Cool for Cats is one of the signature songs by Squeeze; and the eve of the appearance last week’s blog found us with friends Jarmine and Eric at Mohegan Sun to see that wonderful band. It was basically a co-headliner situation with Boy George (Anyone remember Culture Club?) but we were there for Squeeze. We made a weekend around this concert with a (Sunset Hills) winery visit and dinner (La Llorona Progressive Mexican Cuisine) the day and eve before and breakfast ("The Shack" in East Lyme) followed by a stroll along the Niantic Bay Boardwalk the afternoon of the show. We dined ("The Lansdowne Iris Pub & Music House”) at the “Sun” before the show. The concert in Connecticut was was the first of five straight eves out. Citi Field Monday and Wednesday eve; a reprise of sorts of Sunday eve’s entertainment at Central Park Summerstage Tuesday eve; capped by the music of Yes and Emerson Lake & Palmer (“ELP”) Thursday eve at the Capitol Theatre in Westchester.
The concerts were all top flight and I attended many great shows this year – as detailed in past blogs. Squeeze opened at Sun and closed at SummerStage where Marisa joined her parents (She posted so to Facebook. The major difference in the sets involved Boy George joining Squeeze for T. Rex’s “Get It On” to close the SummerStage shows (See the set lists below.).
Portchester which Marisa attended with me featured Yes founder and lead singer Jon Anderson and the Band Geeks performing classic Yes tunes and one of their own (enjoy this brief snipper of ("And You and I."). The opener was (ELP drummer) Carl Palmer’s ELP Legacy. I only saw Yes (with Jon Anderson) and ELP in large venues back in the day. It was amazing to experience those sounds in such an intimate venue. Marisa’s Bar Mitzvah Mixtape opened with “Karn Evil 9: 1st Impression, Part 2” so of course she took a video when Carl opened his show with his bandmates of blessed memory joining him virtually on that classic tune. She also posted Anderson and his mates performing “All Good People.”
And of course the Mets prevailed Monday and Wednesday eves!
A very nice run.
I chose the title from the new song, "One Beautiful Summer," Squeeze performed both eves.
