My husband and myself and another couple have been planning a vacation for over a year. We will be on a catamaran travelling around Antiqua for a week. Nowhere near the luxury of the “Below Deck,” boats (Bravo fans will get the reference) but a very different and relaxing vacation nevertheless.
Our planning has been extensive, asking what we need to pack, how much luggage can we bring on the boat, giving food preferences and similar questions. We never thought to ask, however, until we were weeks away from leaving whether there would be internet on the boat, just assuming that there would be.
I was shocked when we were told that there would be no internet on the boat. I immediately went into panic mode, questioning how will I see my emails, how will I know if a client needs me etc. My husband, who does not rely on the internet for work as I do tried to calm me down, telling me that this is the purpose of vacation, to disconnect and rejuvenate.
My husband’s reassurances aside, I was finally told that there is internet in the cafes in some of the towns we will be visiting. I was also assured that I will have cell service. Those representations calmed me down a bit, but I am still going with a lot of trepidation. For the first time, I am not taking my computer with me on vacation.
How long have you gone without access to the internet?
