How do you utilize your personal strengths in your professional life?
I recently had to ponder this question as I was asked, by a judge, whether I preferred to orally argue a point of law or write a memorandum of law on the issue. Surprising my adversary, I choose to write the memorandum. A little dumfounded by my choice, my adversary agreed.
Admittedly, a part me choose as I did to surprise and confuse my adversary. And that was successful.
My desire to confuse my adversary notwithstanding, I still would have chosen to write the argument. I know that writing is one of my strengths. I know that I write logically and concisely, whereas some of my colleagues do not have that skill. Therefore, I would choose writing every time.
