As I have admitted in numerous blogs, I enjoy shopping for clothing, handbags and shoes. One item of clothing I never felt it necessary to spend an excessive amount of money on was socks. Generally, I buy my socks in three packs from Costco. I usually buy the most inexpensive socks that they carry in my size. That recently changed.
My husband and I spent a week in the Southwest, exploring the beautiful natural scenery of Utah, Colorado, and New Mexico. Knowing that the trip involved a lot of hiking I made sure that I brought the proper hiking boots to wear. After the first day, I noticed a cut along my ankle and quickly assumed that the boots did not fit me properly. Our guide looked at my leg and the boots and told me that the cause of my injury was probably the socks I was wearing. He told me wearing proper socks is just as important as wearing the proper footwear.
That evening my husband and I went into town to purchase a pair of the socks that the guide had recommended. The socks were 100% wool and I immediately balked at the cost, $25.00. My husband insisted, however, that we purchase them for me.
The next day I put the wool socks on and could immediately feel the difference between the new socks and my Costco socks. The wool socks felt really soft and almost luxurious on my feet. And after a day of hiking, my feet felt good. I was so happy with the socks that we went back to the same store that evening and bought two more pairs.
I was never a “sock person” but have since become one. Do you spend money on socks? If so, what kind of socks do you buy?
