About eighteen months ago I was contemplating whether to buy my first Kindle. As an avid reader I wondered whether I could give up physically reading books. As such, I wrote a blog asking for opinions. Here’s my follow-up.
I love my Kindle. I love the ease of being able to bring numerous books with me anywhere I go. I also love the ability to be able to purchase a book and have it available for reading an instant later. I even purchased a “funky” cover for my Kindle that adds my own personal touch to it.
Interestingly I have unexpectedly found that, not physically seeing the book prior to its purchase, has led me to read books I may not otherwise have chosen to read. For instance, I thoroughly enjoyed “The Goldfinch.” After finishing it on my Kindle I happened to come across a hard copy of the book. I was shocked at the book’s length and wondered whether I would have chosen to read it had I known beforehand the voluminous length of the book.
The only negative about my Kindle is the residual guilt I feel because I really no longer frequent bookstores, except for an occasional cookbook. Having been a big supporter of small and local bookstores, their loss is my only regret about my Kindle purchase.
