During the recent exciting run for the Pennant by the Mets I posted the above photo and caption on the Gotham Sports Talk listserve and on Facebook. Inasmuch as most everyone knows me as a Yankee fan who proudly wears a Yankee hat it may have appeared to be hypocritical or front running, but, as they say, not at all.
I was there as a fan at the Mets 1962 birth as an expansion team and I suffered along with former Yankee Manager Casey Stangel in their 120 game loss rookie year.
Such a fan that in 1964 artist wife Joanne and myself won the initial Shea Stadium Banner day with "We Cry Harder Because We're Number 10". Our winning entry can be seen below on our Wall.
Yes, at our September 18 Gotham Yankee Mets night at Citi Field I wore my Yankee hat and suffered as the Yankees lost that night. However, the Mets have always been my second favorite team and they are representing New York City in style. Thus, I feel that I am entitled to sport a Mets cap. Especially so since I took both my sons regularly to Shea Stadium in their boyhood to see the Mets and they became dyed in the wool Met fans along with their sons.
Let's go Mets, only 4 more wins before we win the World Series!
