Sometimes a song just sticks in your head. Leaving the gym Thursday was one of those moments. A Traffic song. But just not a song but a live version from a particular LP (“Welcome To The Canteen” featured the original Traffic quartet Steve Winwood, Dave Mason, Jim Capaldi and Chris Wood accompanied by Ric Grech on bass, Rebop Kwaku Baah on percussion and Jim Gordon on drums).

I knew several version reside in my iTunes including the original studio version on Last Exit and the remastered first Traffic LPs and another live version from 1970 Paris Theatre that many heard during the old King Biscuit Flower Hour radio series.

I recall the 1970 live version as a curiosity as it was only the three members and Chris Wood played the bass part on his sax.

I always enjoyed the powerful and percussive live version from “...Canteen.” I wanted to call up that version but only the latter three showed. Something did not make sense.

When I got home I searched further on my iTunes and found the Canteen version had “(live)” in its title.

An interesting quirk.

I played it in the car driving from my morning basketball to the gym where I enjoyed the jacuzzi and the pool.

p.s. On YouTube there is a 1994 version sans the great Chris Wood from Woodstock.
