Do you remember when you were a wee lad or lass and it was time to pick teams for dodgeball, basketball or some gym team sport, or neighborhood front-lawn game? It was an interesting study of the human condition, as children. The desire to be "picked for the team" and not be the last man or woman standing was gut-wrenching. Remember?
I think I was picked last once, because I had red hair. The boy that sat as captain, thought he might "catch freckles" if I was on his team. Poor fool. I ate his soul for breakfast and we won our co-ed Four Square game.
Fast forward 30 years. Last week, I received an email from the best lady golfer at Applebrook. She specifically asked me if I wanted to join the team. I was thrilled! Those childhood memories flooded back. The wee girl voice inside said, "OMG, she picked me!!"
As we get older, the value of our teams, friends, colleagues, partners and mentors mean so much.
Remember to tell your team-mates how much they mean to you. Don't forget how important Human Capital is to our lives. It IS THEE most valuable treasure.
GO TEAM!
