I find my calendar app a saving grace of sorts. Pre-computers I relied on a papers calendar and things to do lists. The early calendars on computers never worked for me and I created my own as a text document going from Wordperfect to Word to OpenOffice (my preferred Office app). Eventually moving to an iPhone and a Mac, I found comfort in a real calendar App that offered my the ability to include as much information as I found necessary and useful in any calendar entry. This proved useful going into the weekend.
Going into this weekend, I faced a rather busy last several weeks. While it included moments of pure joy and work that I continue to enjoy, every day seemed like I needed more hours. One responsibility I needed to check off involved dinner reservations prior to the musical Shelly picked for her birthday this year. Last night I took her to see Come From Away -- which in many ways speaks to making things happen (and much more). I performed no research so until I asked Shelly at dinner, I knew nothing about this single act play set in the aftermath of 911. I considered one location a block away from the theatre we enjoyed when took in Kinky Boots. I found the venue though my calendar app. I made a reservation through the website but I noticed the lack of any confirming email. I thought maybe I erred in submitting the RSVP. I tried again; still no confirmation. I searched the addressed and found another restaurant at that location; the menu I knew would not work for Shelly.
Back at the drawing board, I thought well we liked the restaurant last year when we took in Book of Mormon. Though a few blocks away from the Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre, I thought it could work and luckily I secure a nice table for two. We arrived on time and left with more than enough time to pick up our ducats from a TodayTix Concierge agents.
Interestingly both celebrations for the Bearak couple occurred the weekend following. On the drive home we discussed options for next year. Might be something completely different.
