Lunch Vacation

Lunch Vacation

Here we are on Goat Island in Newport.  It sounds more exotic than it is -- there is nothing on Goat Island.  Not even goats.  But being on vactaion, Eve said I can eat anything I want.  And that counts for a lot, including Ben and Jerry's.

Usually lunch during vactions means taking time to stuff calories in your face in between what you are doing the rest of the day.  Not so this time.  There are three vacations when lunch really matters: when you go skiing, to the beach, or to Paris.

In Paris it is a must to sit outside in a cafe and have a ham and cheese sandwich with mustard and a beer.  This is hard for me because I don't eat meat so I suffer watching others.  Still, the Paris cafe lunch is essential.

Lunch during skiing is important, not only to refuel but also to rest your legs.  Lunch during a ski trip is even more important if you are in Zermatt. Then it becomes an event itself, rivaling dinner for quality and beer and wine consumed.  That may result in less energy for skiing the rest of the day, but it is worth the trade.

That leaves lunch during a beach vacation, probably my favorite of all.  It must include clams, preferrably fried and greasy, the kind that leaves you with an uneasy stomach but is unbeatable on the way down.  Beer or an island drink is also required, not only for the fun, but also to ensure a Propofil-style nap in your lounge chair in the afternoon.

We are off for a little sailing trip this morning.  Then can't wait for lunch.
