I just had the flu. I haven’t had the flu in years. Actually, the last time I had the flu was the year before I started taking a flu shot. Yes, I admit there were years back then when I guess I thought I was invincible. And then the flu smacked me in the forehead, and I haven’t made that decision again. Seriously, I remember that my partners pretty much tied me down to make me take the shot the following year.
But nonetheless I just had the flu. The moral of my story though is how things have changed. I knew I was sick one day and went to the doctor the next. Mind you, I was pretty darn sick but not quite flu sick. As the PA at the office eloquently said, “you don’t look sick enough.” Sure enough, it was Flu A, but because of the flu vaccine a pretty darn mild appearance.
And to top it off, I left with a prescription for Tamiflu which works to both help symptoms and shorten the duration.
So, all in all, while I’m not happy to have had a bout of flu, I can say that in this instance the world of medicine truly helped this one along.
