Indulging

Indulging

I have to admit that I am jealous of my husband. We can walk into a restaurant and he can order a French onion soup, with extra cheese, a  steak with all the trimmings—loaded baked potato and rolls with butter.  No second thoughts, no sideways glances from the waiter. He’s able to indulge and clearly enjoy doing it.

I, on the other hand, will generally order a salad, with no dressing, and fish broiled “dry.”  Admittedly, I do not eat steak. But I find that I cannot indulge like he can. He has the freedom to enjoy food without guilt. I, however, cannot bring myself to do so. I, constantly have to be “good,” and make the “right” choice. If he orders pasta, I will taste it, but I will never order it as a main dish.

I rarely give myself permission to indulge, except on very special occasions like my birthday. Do you?
