Unfortunately, I was unable to watch the Inauguration ceremony live last Wednesday due to my participation in an on going trial (my experience in trying a case virtually is definitely fodder for another blog). When I finally arrived home late Wednesday evening, I could only watch recaps or read about the festivities.
The festivities and politics aside, I want to discuss the fashion. I noticed that on Tuesday night, Jill Biden wore all purple. On Wednesday, Vice President Harris was also wearing all purple, along with Michelle, Obama and Hillary Clinton.
I also noticed that, on Inauguration Day, Jill Biden wore all blue as Melania Trump did in 2017. This piqued my curiosity and I researched whether there was symbolism involved in the choice of dress on Inauguration Day. Apparently, several first ladies have worn blue to signify trust, unity, and confidence. Laura Bush also choose to wear blue last Wednesday to project a message of unity. Vice President Harris and the other former first ladies chose purple as a symbol of the combination of red and blue which makes purple.
Personally, I loved Michelle Obama’s Inauguration Day outfit as well as Jill Biden’s. I would purchase either outfit if I could. Most breath taking to me, however, was the white embroidered coat and dress that Dr. Biden wore on Wednesday night. On both the coat and the dress were flowers embroidered representing the state flower of all fifty states with the flower of Delaware embroidered near Dr. Biden’s heart. I thought the coat and dress were just exquisitely crafted and beautifully symboylic.
Did you notice the Inauguration Day fashion? What did you think? Were you aware of the level of symbolism that is involved in the choice of dress?
