In the midst of the eerie smoke last week, it was nice to read a story about hope and survival.
Four children — including a baby — who spent over a month alone in the Amazon following a plane crash had been found alive. The siblings, who range in ages from 1 to 13 were found in the Columbian jungle on Friday. They were the only survivors of a May 1 plane crash that left every other passenger, including their mother, Magdalena Mucutuy Valencia, dead.
While the story has its roots in tragedy- the crash and death of the adults- the survival of the children is being celebrated in Columbia. In these times we are living in, a story about an almost miraculous survival was uplifting and brought a much needed smile to my day.
