Admittedly, I don’t have the greatest sense of direction – but DC has me completely turned around.
We spent last weekend moving my daughter to DC (she starts her PhD at Georgetown in a couple of weeks – go Jaclyn! – but that is not the point of my story). Even Bill had trouble figuring out the city – and he is that guy who goes somewhere once, and can then eternally return without directions.
I know I am dating myself, but when we were first married my job was to read the map whenever we travelled. Bill had a collection of Hagstrom Maps (remember those?) in the car and I would be our navigator. Over the years, my job was made redundant by GPS. Really, I didn’t mind. Truth be told, I would much rather nap in the car.
This past weekend, however, my position was reinstated – even with our GPS. The streets in DC just didn’t seem to make sense. My daughter described it as if it were “Broadway everywhere you looked.”
OK friends – any tips for navigating DC? I expect to be spending a lot of time in this city over the next six years.
