Before the first Mother's Day Eve and I shared a few years ago we excitedly went shopping for our mothers.  It was the first time our parents all met.  It was a lovely day and our mothers sat together opening their gifts and telling the other that they hoped we would get married one day.  I remember it well. It was a very happy day.

Now, my mother is gone, and Eve's mother is gravely ill.  Things changes slowly, and then quickly and the landscape is so different than it was just a few short years ago.

The silver lining is that my daughter is now a mother, and today is her first Mother's Day.  My granddaughter is named partly after my mother.

There are many mothers to celebrate today.  Our own, our wives, and our daughters even.  Happy Mother's Day to all of them!  You are all the best.
