As I was riding through Liberty, NY today (Tuesday) I couldn’t help but realize how fortunate we are to live in the greatest country in the world. I am also infinitely fortunate to live in the greatest city in the world where on any day I can get on the subway and find myself in the heart of where our nation was born. Bowling Green Park (first public park in the US) at the bottom of Broadway had a big statue of King George, when the Declaration of Independence was read out loud to the colonists at City Hall, they got so riled up, they toppled the statue, sawed the Crowns off the fence, melted them down and made musket balls to fight the British with their own Crowns! The fence has never been changed. Go see it, the original fence still there. Amazing. New York was the first capitol of the United States, walk a couple blocks you can stand where George Washington was inaugurated. Couple blocks the other way and you can be in the exact building where he gave his farewell to the troops.
