A week ago this morning found Shelly and I at the Legislative Breakfast of the Queens Jewish Community Council (“QJCC”) at the Young Israel of Jamaica Estates.  Shelly does not usually join me at these breakfasts but this year our daughter got installed as a director by Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz.

I posted the proud parent moment to social media that morning (See screenshot upper left.).

Marisa’s “ascension” makes this the first time daughter joined the QJCC board that her dad had previously served on.  There was a father-son but never before a father-daughter.  Indeed I served as an officer when that son joined the board and I served on its board when his dad was President.

I had roles there through 2006.  I started as trustee (which was the board of directors title then), then served Financial Secretary, Vice President and Executive Vice President.  I even found a path to keep its doors open when a dispute between the City Council and then Mayor Giuliani threatened its City social program funding.

So I find it quite nice that Marisa joins its board under the leadership of two friends, President Barry Grodenchik and Executive Director Mayer Waxman.

Marisa has been working with QJCC in her role as Assistance Director at the American Jewish Committee’s New York Region.  That included a Queens Community-Wide Commemoration of October 7th this past October 7.

This QJCC role is not Marisa’s first father - daughter “role.”  She already serves with her dad on the Northeast Queens Jewish Community Council Steering Committee  (Interestingly her (elder) brother Jonathan built the original NortheastQueensJewish.org website.).

We are very proud of the work that Marisa does, including a lot of coalition-building, at AJC/NY.
