Thank you "Hard Hitting" Don Bernstein for relinquishing your prime time Sunday spot, but the following just bubbled up and would not wiait until Friday.
I have heard that Mother's and Father's Days are "Hallmark Holidays", but in fact they were initiated at the start of the 20th Century for good non commercial reasons. Of course, Mother's Day came first and they felt sorry for us and soon gave us a special day too.
Having two married sons and two sets of grandchildren, Father's Day is a magnet to draw Family together and it is nice to be recognized and treated as special. However, the giving of presents aspect is really not necessary and at times disappointing (both for the giver and receiver).
For others the holiday is far far more complicated and discordant. In the past weeks I have heard men complaining about having to show up 0n their designated day and endure Family. It is so sad to hear their tales of divorce, disaffected children and more.
It makes me feel so fortunate and appreciative.
Happy Father's Day!
