Despite the title, I promise absolutely no politics, no political diatribes of any kind in this commentary. Just some Chimes of Freedom.
You ask then how a discussion of Freedom involves none of the above. Well. Read on. You be the judge.
I planned to purchase an iPad in the Spring. Shelly enjoys hers. Jonathan has had several, one repurposed to his sister; even mom has one. My personal tekkie aka my son, Jonathan, perhaps frustrated at my procrastination, gifted his dad one For Free. It already changed things here. It certainly empowered me to Be Free.
And I always argue when technology makes sense it liberates you; it makes you a Freedom Rider.
Let’s look at some changes. I canceled or allowed the expiration at the end of this month of daily papers except on the weekends. The morning papers consistently arrived later than made sense, despite my complaints. It remained a source of frustration especially when I found no papers to peruse as I started my day. The iPad’s screen size also offers versatility for reading the news. I Feel Free.
I also use the iPad to read email – which frees me up from sitting at my desk. Looking at mail on my iPhone works most of the time but I never enjoyed using it for casual reading. I usually tether my MacBook Pro to an external monitor and do not like disconnecting that setup to just sit with my lap top on a couch or the dining room tab. So again, I’m Free.
If I want to view my Contacts or Calendar, or even make entries the iPad often works as well as the Mac with a few exceptions that probably matter only to this commentator. Nice to be as free as a bird now…..
When away from home or office and no WiFi connections exists for me, I connect the iPad to the iPhone (“Personal Hotspot”). Certainly empowers me to be Rockin’ In The Free World.
People Got To Be Free – I know I am!
(Famous speech excerpt.)
Many A Mile To Freedom – apparently much less with an iPad.
