I sometimes find myself in a situation where I have to make excuses for someone else. Awkward. Depending on the situation, I’ll sometimes offer that I have enough trouble making excuses for myself, let alone others.
We were sitting at a table on the sidewalk outside a cafe in Great Barrington enjoying a pastry and watching people walk by. A couple sat down at a nearby table and their little dog took a restful place at their feet.
Suddenly the little dog started barking loudly and wouldn’t stop. Another dog was approaching from down the sidewalk. The dog’s owner was forced to walk her dog in the street to avoid the little terror.
As the dog passed, the owner of the little terror said “he’s really very nice and calm, but he barks a lot.”
It reminded me that we shouldn’t be making excuses for others.
