There are a lot of great films out there to be seeing. I find watching a movie, especially in a theater, to be a wonderfully uplifting experience. In hard times, a good film can really change my mood.
First and foremost, you must see Hidden Figures. It is not because it is such an artfully crafted film, but because it has so many messages of hope. How much good is going on in the world that we never see. How to stay true to yourself in the midst of much resistance. How to overdeliver at work and how that can change the world. Go. Now.
I would probably have never seen this movie if I hadn't been invited to a screening. Hell or High Water is an enlightening film, I like to call it the "Big Short" for West Texas. It gave me great understanding about the disenfranchised feeling many people in our country have. We must understand before we can heal.
Miss Sloane is another terrific film. Very revealing about the churnings/burnings/earnings/yearnings of a successful lobbyist. I'm sure Corey knows some of these people.
It is a recent "thing" to dislike the movie La La land. I loved it.
Lion was a disappointment. On the bright side, Sunny Pawar plays the lead as a small boy and he is fantastic, truly fantastic. Its also a great story, but I don't think they did a good job of it with the directing, editing and some of the acting. However, one friend of mine called it "devastatingly beautiful." So... vanilla and chocolate.
Fences is another very good one. Often, it is difficult to turn a successful play into a successful movie, but they certainly did it with this. Highly recommend.
Finally, at theater near you, tonight I am going to see the 60th Anniversary of the movie Carousel. Some of the most beautiful music ever written. Sometimes you have to go with a classic.
Don't forget the popcorn and Coke.
