With the tomorrow’s guest speaker, Shelby Rowe, being an expert in suicide prevention, at the LGBTQ meeting, it got me to thinking about the topic and what are the statistics for suicide in New York City. I was happily surprised to find that we are at half the national average, in other words, only half as many (still too many) are likely to kill themselves as in the rest of the country.
Why is that, do you think?
Is it because the struggle, “if you can make it here…, “ is so great that we won’t give it up easily?
My sweetheart says its because New York is so full of life.
Why is it that people who seemingly have “everything,” Robin Williams, Cleopatra, Tchaikovsky, are so prone to it?
I know, often drugs and alcohol are part of the picture.
I hope tomorrow to learn some ways to help.
We’re all in this together.
