I had the great good fortune to be asked by the Gotham Gods to be an ongoing writer for the Gotham Gazette. I was asked to write about LOVE in Gotham. So I reached out to five Gothamites by email about being featured in the story. The email listed in their Gotham profile.
Crickets. Then, I called all five. First one, so enthusiastic, so sorry they hadn't seen the email, got right back to me with everything I requested. One had me call back to their cell phone, but got back to me with everything. One had "not a working number" on their Gotham profile, but had another number and got back to me with everything. One said he was "too busy" to get it to me so quickly, so I extended the deadline adding many days, no response, nothing. One is in Antarctica. One was added last minute and got right back to me, overdelivered.
Steven Skyles Mulligan told me of reaching out to Gotham members to profile them and getting little to no response.
This is a NETWORKING group, right? When the opportunity arises, hop, skip and jump on it. You never know.
I've certainly been guilty myself, but now that I've experienced the "other side," my response time is asap.
It is amazing that despite the great encouragement of Mitch Tobol, people still don't fill out and update their profiles.

YOU. NEVER. KNOW.
