Did you ever invite someone to dinner and your guest proceeds to order the most expensive steak entree on the menu?

It happened to me recently and after getting over my initial penurious shock I was actually and genuinely impressed with the guest’s self possessed chutzpah!

So it goes…

Went to a restaurant. Two couples. A business friend worth a few hundred million in 1990’s. We frequently went out together and shared the bill. He knew I was out of work. He asked me to order the wine, I did. One good but not great. High medium priced. He didn’t like it. Ordered another $250. When the bill came I put my credit card on the table to share. He invited over the waiter. He took the two credit cards hid them one in each hand and ask the waiter to choose. Naturally my card was the winner. Last time we saw each other again
