Went to the legendary Cafe Wha? last night to see the Bodega Tallboys. Alex Klein's band. If you're not familiar, Cafe Wha? it has quite a history. It's referred to a "sanctuary for talent." Artists such as Bob Dylan, Jimi Hendrix, Bruce Springsteen, Peter, Paul & Mary, Kool and the Gang, as well as comedians, Richard Pryor and Bill Cosby got their start here.
It was a lot of fun listening to the boys play a bunch of classic tunes with a variety of instruments; banjo, acoustic guitars (including a bass), some type of blow thing, harmonica and saxophone. They switched instruments between songs which was really interesting.
Their talent was evident in every song they played and the crowd responded. They even played a Bobby Blue Band song which I hadn't heard since he opened for BB King at the Schafer Music Festival years ago.
It was a great night in a really cool place. Maybe this is the start of something big for the Tallboys
