I thought I was “brushed”.
“Brushing”, I quickly learned, is a scam connected to identity theft.
This all unfolded was when I returned home to find four packages from Amazon had been delivered. Not having ordered anything, I was curious and opened the packages hoping to find some indication of where they came from. The contents were assorted items: cosmetics, crayons, valentines cards, and others. No surprise gifts from a belated Secret Santa.
So I went to Amazon to try to find out where these packages came from. And I learned about unordered packages and “Brushing” - a scam tied
to identity theft with the goal of engaging you over the packages and securing personal information. What I learned was: report it to Amazon and don’t scan any QR codes.
The next day, I received a text from a family member telling me that some Amazon merchandise that they ordered may have been sent to me by mistake.
Relieved and grateful for not being “brushed”.....
