If you like good music (yeah, yeah), mark Sunday, April 17th on your calendar. No Arthur Conley but still some sweet sounds.
On that day, the 4th annual Gotham Battle of the Bands® takes place at the iconic Rock venue Cafe Wha? (Thank you Make A Difference Group Co-Chair William Skody for making available his world famous venue) in the heart of Greenwich Village.
As set forth in detail to the right the Gotham Battle of the Bands® features a top prize of $2,000 AND a gig at the same world famous concert venue where such icons as Bob Dylan and Jimi Hendrix played at the outset of their careers.
Already many great bands submitted applications to compete; if you know or want to recommend a band click here for eligibility requirements and a band application Our venerable committee headed by Gotham Entertainment chair Norm Spizz meets later this month to determine which bands deserve the chance to Battle for musical victory.
Gotham also offers an unique opportunity for members of our tribe and others to sponsor this special program of music.
Doors open at 2:30 p.m. Expect bands to play from 3:30 through 6:30 p.m.; look for our judges to announce the winners shortly after.
Get your tickets — $15 general seating and $50 premium — here.
The Gotham Battle of the Bands® — a great way to spend a Spring Sunday. Mass transit takes your there. No parking meters on Sundays.
And as a special treat, AFTER the show, Corey Bearak, “curator” of Gotham’s RockRap listserve and co-author of this musical blog, will show where the three key (and still making music) members of that iconic Rock and Roll Hall of Fame band, Buffalo Springfield, that begat several other bands, met just two blocks away. Join me not at the End of The Line, but in the very front row!
